From Expolatam Panama to Expo Mobile Mexico: What’s Changing in Used iPhone Sourcing

For the LATAM secondary mobile market, 2026 opened with two significant industry gatherings: Expolatam Panama and Expo Mobile Mexico. Our LATAM regional team attended both to understand what buyers are concerned about right now and what changes to expect in used iPhone and refurbished iPhone sourcing across the region.

“What surprised us the most was the level of attendance and activity,” says our sales manager Adrian, “especially from Panama, as it was much higher than we expected.”

Both events brought together the same core ecosystem: wholesalers, retailers, refurbishers, and buyers trying to shorten the chain and source more directly. During conversations on the floor, one theme stayed consistent: buyers are not hunting for a one-off deal. They are looking for a reliable long-term partner who can deliver used and refurbished Apple devices fast, deliver accurately, and keep quality aligned with what was agreed.

“Most attendees were mainly looking for iPhones and Apple products in general. More than specific models, three key factors kept coming up consistently: competitive pricing, a reliable supplier, fast delivery times,” Adrian shared after the event.

What buyers were looking to buy

Yes, it was Apple-heavy. Alongside broad demand for used iPhones, we repeatedly heard interest in New, CPO, AS IS+, and refurbished units. Demand clustered around high-turn models where buyers can move volume quickly and keep their cash cycle tight.

“They are mainly looking for New, CPO, AS IS+ and refurbished units, models like 13 128GB, 17 Pro Max and Pro, 14 Pro Max, 13 Pro Max, 15 Pro Max, and iPad 11th,” said Alvaro, our regional sales manager based in Panama.

The detail matters, but the deeper signal matters more: buyers are choosing suppliers based on who can repeat success week after week, not who can offer one attractive list today.

The real obstacle: the gap between promise and reality

Across both events, the same three pressure points showed up again and again:

·        Product quality expectations (grading, consistency, DOA handling)

·    Delivery speed (lead time and reliability)

·        Price expectations (and how fast they change)

Adrian described how intense this comparison culture has become: “We even saw people walking around with price lists on their phones, actively comparing suppliers in real time to close deals.”

That tells you everything. This is a competitive market where trust is measured in execution. If delivered devices do not match the promised grading, if DOA handling feels unclear, or if shipping is late, buyers move on.

Price is always important, but we heard something worth underlining: when quality is right and shipping is reliable, many buyers are willing to pay slightly more.

One buyer summed up the trade-off clearly: if sourcing from Hong Kong, the waiting time only makes sense when pricing beats local options enough to justify the timeline.

Hong Kong’s role in LATAM used mobile market

What became clear after both events is that Hong Kong remains a key sourcing hub for used and refurbished Apple devices because it can offer deep market liquidity, wider model availability, and price opportunities. But that advantage only works when execution is strong and lead times make sense for the buyer.

Orient Telecom Limited operates from Hong Kong and works with LATAM buyers who want clear grading alignment, predictable shipment planning, and fewer surprises after payment. Our focus is simple: consistent grading, clear expectations upfront, and logistics that match what was agreed. If you are building a reliable supply line from Hong Kong into LATAM, these are the exact conversations our team is having every week, both online and on the ground.
